To reflect these exciting changes at DSU, the university will soon embark on a complete rebuild of its website. The university seeks an individual to manage the content on the DSU.edu site and other digital properties to assure the mission and vision of the university will be communicated with unified and compelling design and narrative. The Web Editor is responsible to initiate and manage content and images used on our web and social media properties.
We are looking for a creative and passionate Web Editor to research, plan, develop and implement our web and social media presence. As a Web Editor, your main goal will be to produce high-quality webpages and social media which attracts targeted audiences. This position is new at the university and reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Web Editor duties and responsibilities
• Manage high-quality content and imagery on all web and social media properties
• Build relationships with colleges, departments, divisions and team members
• Work as a liaison with an external agency which will be re-building the site
• Regularly check and track content for accuracy
• Edit, proofread and suggest improvements to written content
• Adhere to SEO rules
• Use Social Media for better presence
• Comply with copyright and privacy regulations
• Determine and track important KPIs
• Track and analyze website’s traffic
• Be an effective listener and communicator who is adept at gathering and disseminating information on DSU’s academic offerings
The successful candidate must have the ability to review, proofread and edit content for accuracy, along with assuring that the website meets established editorial, graphic and navigation standard. The individual must be able to organize, plan and work collaboratively with a variety of on-campus colleagues, clients, and off-campus vendors; handle multiple projects and work under pressure periodically. Other responsibilities include: working with other team members in the Marketing and Communications Department to develop and implement the university’s communications and marketing strategies. Finally, it is assumed this individual will be able to train content authors across campus on updating university, college and department pages to ensure constantly updated content on the site.
Bachelor’s degree required, majors in information systems or English for new media (or similar) strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing content of medium to large-web sites, preferably in an education or corporate environment; he or she will need excellent verbal and written communications skills. The individual must be highly organized, deadline and detail-oriented, effective at gathering and editing information from numerous sources. Project management skills are necessary, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This individual must be diplomatic and tactful, exhibit confidentiality and possess a sense of humor. Knowledge of HTML and three years web writing experience required; experience with Adobe Suite and basic knowledge of web design is desired.
